YMCA of Greater St. Louis Receives $15,000 Grant from The Saigh Foundation to Support Literacy Efforts for Children
St. Louis, MO (November 10, 2009) – The YMCA of Greater St. Louis announced today a $15,000 grant from The Saigh Foundation to support the YMCA’s YRead Literacy program for school-age children. This is the fifth time since 2002 that the YMCA has been awarded a grant by The Saigh Foundation.
The YRead program focuses on academically at-risk children, ages 6 to 15, who are reading below their grade level. Learners are matched with a volunteer tutor with whom they meet twice each week for long-term one-on-one tutoring. The YRead program serves more than 130 learners each year.
Siteman Cancer Center's Mammography Van to Visit YMCAs
The Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine and the YMCA of Greater St. Louis have announced a partnership to offer health screenings, education and cancer prevention information across the region.
