Yuriy's Story
When Yuri came to St. Louis, he went to the Edward Jones Family YMCA because, as he put it, “Every Siberian boy wishes to swim!”
Father of Eve, 12, and Maxim, 6, Yuri lost his job one year ago. “The YMCA was the first who was able to give my kids and me helping hands,” he says of the financial assistance he received thanks to those who give to the Strong Community Campaign. “I was able to continue my membership—I don’t know if I could have survived that time without the YMCA.”

While he was out of work, Yuri decided the time was right to get healthy, and started working out and swimming at the YMCA every day. The friendly atmosphere at the Y helped him stay motivated. His children started going with him and taking swim lessons. His daughter Eve joined the swim team and Maxim plays soccer. After a year of YMCA membership, Yuri lost 100 pounds and rebuilt his family.
Yuri is happy to pass on his experience to anyone who is ready to feel better and find a supportive community. “The YMCA is now part of my life,” Yuri says. “Thank you again.”
