The Literacy Council Unlocks the Power of Literacy by...


Providing free one-on-one tutoring to adults needing to improve their reading skills.
The Literacy Council program matches adult students with volunteer tutors. Tutors and students meet once a week in a local library for a year to achieve personal goals.

Enabling English as a Second Language adults to develop English language proficiency.

YMCA Community Literacy is now accepting students and tutors for the English Language Learning Lab located at the Mid-County Family YMCA at 1900 Urban Drive, St. Louis Mo 63144. The ELL Lab offers Rosetta Stone, one on one and small group instruction for English as a Second Language adults in the St. Louis area. The lab is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. For more information please contact Jennifer at 314-776-7102 or Jschmidt@ymcastlouis.org.


Supporting immigrants and refugees
Y Literacy supports immigrants and refugees by providing a nuturing and caring environment to learn the English language and study to take the U.S. citizenship test. Our tutors are genuine in their commitment to their students and create a nurturing environment for all students.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website provides many study tools to help immigrants prepare for the US Citizenship test.  To download flash cards and other tools, click here to visit their website!
