All of our tutors are volunteers

Becoming an adult literacy Tutor
If you are interested in helping an adult on our waiting list improve his/her reading or English skills, please contact Caroline at 314-776-7102 or cmitchell@ymcastlouis.org. A training session is provided to all new tutors on Saturdays from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Our next training sessions are scheduled for September 11th and November 6th.
Becoming a YRead Tutor
If you are interested in helping one of the children on our waiting list improve his/her reading skills, please contact Michelle at 314-776-7102 or mpeeler@ymcastlouis.org. Training is provided to all new tutors on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Our next scheduled training sessions are August 14th, October 9th and December 4th.
Becoming a Learning Lab Tutor
Volunteer tutors assist the classroom teachers in our Learning Labs. If you are interested in helping a student improve her/his reading or math skills, contact Lucia at 314-776-7102 or lluan@ymcastlouis.org.
becoming a begining babies with books volunteer
Thanks to our dedicated partners and volunteers, through Beginning Babies with Books we are able to distribute 10,000 books to parents and young children in family health centers, child care centers and social service agencies in the City of St. Louis.
- Donate books to our programs so we can provide them to families in need.
- Talk to others about the importance of the early stages of literacy and the impact low literacy has on our region.
- Work with a parent to help prepare them to read to their child.
- Become a parent mentor in the Parents in the Classroom program.
