Building a Stronger, Healthier Community . . . That’s Y
We are excited to announce that efforts are underway for a $2.3 million capital campaign to expand the Wildwood Family YMCA. The plan is to increase the facility by 26% to meet current demand as well as anticipated growth of our community.

In the five years since our YMCA opened, participation has grown by leaps and bounds. With the community growing as well, the time is especially right for this project.

YMCA capital projects are funded entirely through dollars specifically donated for this purpose. The Wildwood Family YMCA was fortunate to have its facility built through funds raised from a YMCA of Greater St. Louis capital campaign.

“We are currently in the first phase of the campaign,” says District Vice President Mike Gavosto. “We are talking to our major donors, board members and community leaders to find out the extent they can support us in this campaign.” Further campaign stages will bring the campaign to members and the public.

The plan is for the 12,000 square foot expansion on the west side of the building to include a family and teen program area, multi-purpose space and fitness/gymnasium space. It will increase the number and capacity of skill classes, increase family programming and impact the health and quality of life of more people every year.

“While we hope to break ground in 2008 for the expansion,” Mike says. “That depends on how quickly we raise the money needed.”

Our effort is part of a YMCA of Greater St. Louis $30 million capital campaign for capital projects at six YMCAs, building a new full facility YMCA in Wentzville and investing into programming for youth in the urban core of St. Louis.
