Michelle’s story
Michelle was experiencing severe knee pain at only 34 years of age. After visiting many doctors she was diagnosed with Milroy’s disease. This disease causes problems such as pain, infection and difficulty in movement resulting in other life restrictions. Michelle was receiving treatment through her insurance with Excel Sports therapy at the O’Fallon Family YMCA. When her treatment period ended, she inquired about membership, but was not able to afford the monthly fees. Thanks to the support of those who give to the annual Partner Campaign, Michelle was able to obtain a membership to continue the exercises and activities needed to improve her health.
Michelle said that without the Y she did not know where she would be. The YMCA has the equipment and programs she needs to help with her disease. “The people here are so nice,” said Michelle. “They are willing to help with anything.” Michelle’s health is continuing to improve and she was able to complete the entire MS walk in April of 2006.
Everyone’s a Y kid, from the active older adults in aquatics class, to the youngest member of Mommy & Me gymnastics. And they all find what they need at the YMCA—a place to belong, friends who care, the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment.
The YMCA mission is at the heart of all of our programs: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirits, minds and bodies for all. We can only live up to our mission, and truly serve all who need us, with the help of committed and generous donors like you who give to the YMCA Partner Campaign. Your help ensures that no one, of any age, race, gender or ability, will ever be turned away from a YMCA program because they can’t afford it. Your help ensures that every kid can be a Y kid.
