Celebrating Teachers
The Jefferson County Family YMCA recognized teachers as a part of teacher appreciation week the first week of May. Children in the School Age Child Care program were asked to write an essay in 100 words or less telling why their teacher was the best.
There were two winning essays. The first was by Mariah Theves for her teacher, Ms Scherrills, teacher at Senn Thomas Middle School (pictured above with Matt Clark YMCA Executive Director). Her essay read:
My favorite teacher is Ms. Scherrills because she is very kind. She also shows her appreciation for her students. She is easy to talk to. She gives you a second chance when you screw up. She also helps you all the time and is willing to look something up for you. I like when we reach the top of the ladder and we get a party of our choice which she buys the supplies for it. She encourages you to reach your goals by rewarding you at the end and soon enough we will be able to reach goals without a reward. She is the best teacher in the universe.

The second winner was Megan Pervansky for her teacher, Mrs. Teague, teacher at Pevely Primary School. Her essay read:
Mrs. Teague is my favorite teacher because she is always fair to the kids in my class. She makes learning fun. She always makes me smile! She brightens my day. She always comes up with fun activities for us. She always makes me laugh. Mrs. Teague taught me a lot this year. She always gave us practice test before the test. On the map test she always pointed out what was the hardest part in the test. Mrs. Teague is a amazing teacher. I never want to leave 4th grade because of her. She is the best teacher in the whole entire world!

Both winners were in the Dunklin School District. Each teacher won a YMCA membership and all the students in their classrooms won free YMCA guest passes.
