YMCA Reaches Out to Those Who Have Lost Jobs
YMCA of Greater St. Louis To Offer Free Two-Month Memberships To Those Who Have Recently Lost Their Jobs
St. Louis, MO (May 1, 2009) – To provide even greater support to families and individuals experiencing financial hardship, the YMCA of Greater St. Louis will begin offering free two-month memberships to those who have recently lost their jobs. The free memberships will be offered at all branches of the YMCA of Greater St. Louis beginning May 4 for a limited time.
“For more than 150 years, the YMCA of Greater St. Louis has responded to the needs of our community,” said Gary Schlansker, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater St. Louis. “Especially in tough times, the YMCA provides a place to connect with others, de-stress, and be part of a supportive community.”
This new initiative supplements the traditional financial assistance the YMCA has always offered families and individuals to make YMCA programs accessible for all regardless of ability to pay. The annual YMCA Partner Campaign raises funds to help families afford memberships, summer camp, child care and other YMCA services.
“The YMCA’s mission is to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities,” said Schlansker. “That’s vital now more than ever and we’re committed to making health and well-being within everyone’s reach.”
For information on the free membership program, visit any YMCA branch or www.ymcastlouis.org or call 314-436-1177. YMCA branch membership staff can also provide information on other financial assistance for anyone, regardless of current job status.
