The Downtown-Marquette offers Free Guests Fridays!

The Downtown-Marquette YMCA operates as one branch composed of the Downtown YMCA, a full-services facility located on Locust Street, and the Marquette YMCA, a satellite facility located on North Broadway.

Caitlyn's story Caitlyn will be a sophomore in high school this year. The Carondelet Family YMCA has been an integral part of her life and she is eager to tell others how much the YMCA has changed her life. With the help of financial assistance, she attended Central Leader’s School. This one-week YMCA program teaches youth and teens leadership skills for life. Caitlyn helped to found the Carondelet YMCA Leader’s Club and has served as President. Caitlyn has far exceeded the volunteer service expectation by teaching preschool dance and assisting in Child Watch, our on-site, while-you-work-out, baby-sitting service. She also spent an entire summer as a Counselor in Training for YMCA Day Camp. Caitlyn has planned and led other teens in service- learning and civic engagement projects, including helping to design the South City Skate Park. Not only has she given to the YMCA, the YMCA continues to give back to her. She has made service-learning trips to Trinidad and Belize over the past two years.

This year we have the wonderful opportunity to spotlight two very extraordinary people.

Quanisha Pool has been a member of the Downtown YMCA's School Age Childcare program at Gateway Elementary School for the past two years. She has had the chance to interact with other children, be in the care of friendly and helpful staff, and build character focusing around the four core values of the YMCA.

When asked, Quanisha's mother, Ms. Hughes, told us she heard about the Strong Community Campaign from a staff person. "As a working mother, I knew I needed help with the care of my children after school. Quanisha has special needs [and is confined to a wheelchair] and we were concerned there wouldn't be help for her. But after seeing the School Age Childcare Program, I was very pleased. The YMCA staff is trained, knowledgeable and caring."

One of those affects our pool hours. Since Monday, April 13, the Downtown YMCA's pool has adopted new hours. We have added some new break times and will be closing the pool an hour before the building closes.

Downtown YMCA Community Christmas

Celebrate Christmas with your community at the Downtown YMCA.

This two-day event begins Friday, December 11, from
6 p.m. - 8 p.m. and continues through Saturday, December 12, from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. All YMCA members AND community members are welcome!

We will be unveiling our new community room called, "Tike's Corner," named after a long-time, dedicated member. We will also debut our new Literacy Lab.

Friday night's activities include Family Bingo, pool and ping pong and relaxed reading. We will also serve refreshments and cookies.

Saturday will be an action-packed day as we host pool, ping pong and Wii tournaments. We will also facilitate a Christmas Craft in our Literacy Lab and have story time as one of our staff members reads a Christmas-themed story. Enjoy refreshments and cookies once again in our lobby.

Celebrate Easter with the whole family at the Downtown YMCA’s Breakfast with the Easter Bunny!

On Saturday, April 3, we will host a breakfast from 9-10:30 a.m. The Easter Bunny himself will even make a special appearance before his big day!

We will also provide a variety of activities including arts and crafts, a coloring contest and use of Tike’s Corner, which is equipped with two Wii stations, DJ Hero and Rock Band!

Breakfast is $5 per person, and all proceeds benefit the United Way of Greater St. Louis. We hope to see you here!
