Le’Andre's Story
Le’Andre Gibson and his mother Sherron Thompson both came to the Grand Opening of the Learning Lab at the Emerson Family YMCA. The both wanted to tell others about how they were affected by the YMCA Literacy Programs. Le’Andre is a graduate of the YRead program. He wanted to encourage those attending the grand opening to follow their dreams. Le’Andre was eager to tell others about how much he has grown. “I can read better and my vocabulary has greatly increased. Also, I can express myself better,” said Le’Andre. That was obvious. His advice to others? “Stick with it. You can do whatever you want to do.” Le’Andre is following his own advice. He is currently working as an apprentice at Grant Masonry. Le’Andre has also inspired and gotten support from his mother. She is currently pursuing her GED through the YMCA Literacy Council program. After receiving her GED, she plans to enroll in nursing school.
Congratulations to Le’Andre and Sherron. Keep following your dreams and your life will inspire others to do the same.
