Book Fair History

2009 celebrated the 31st anniversary of the YMCA Book Fair. Started in 1978 by a group of dedicated YMCA volunteers who raised several hundred dollars for the YMCA by holing a small, one day book fair in the gymnasium.

The YMCA book fair has now grown to into a six day event. So far the YMCA Book Fair has raised over One Million dollars for the YMCA and our outreach programs. To learn more about what each of these YMCA programs means to the community, please follow these links: Carondelet Family YMCA, the Wash U Campus YMCA, YMCA Literacy Programs, Carondelet Y Service Club.

The YMCA Book Fair is a collaborative project of the YMCA. It includes several YMCA organizations & community volunteers that are dedicated to assisting the YMCA in their mission, in particular their Youth Programs and the YMCA Literacy Programs. Among its efforts to this end is the YMCA Book Fair, which provides a large selection of new and quality used books at reasonable prices.

Volunteers

The YMCA Book Fair would not be possible without our volunteers!
The YMCA Book Fair is an event that you have to see to believe. The preparation process begins in March and ends with the event in August. Volunteering at the YMCA Book Fair is a great way to connect with other book lovers.

This year we need help with:

  • book and box pick ups
  • book sorting
  • book fair set-up and take down
