Jason and Mary's story
After Jason and Mary’s sons were born—Joshua, now 2 years old and Isaiah, now 6 months, they decided that they wanted Mary to stay at home with their sons. This meant that the family of four would be living on the income Jason earned. They initially made they decision to downgrade their family membership to an Adult membership, but eventually they had to cut more expenses and the Y membership was one thing to let go. When Y staff told Jason about the financial assistance offered by the branch he was thrilled. Now he has kept his family membership and also can enroll his sons in swim lessons and sports.
Jason has also battled depression with medication alone but was never able to find the balance he needed, until he became a part of the YMCA. “As long as I keep my family, my spirituality and the YMCA balanced, I’m good,” said Jason.
Everyone’s a Y kid, from the active older adults in aquatics class, to the youngest member of Mommy & Me gymnastics. And they all find what they need at the YMCA—a place to belong, friends who care, the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment.
The YMCA mission is at the heart of all of our programs: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirits, minds and bodies for all. We can only live up to our mission, and truly serve all who need us, with the help of committed and generous donors like you who give to the YMCA Partner Campaign. Your help ensures that no one, of any age, race, gender or ability, will ever be turned away from a YMCA program because they can’t afford it. Your help ensures that every kid can be a Y kid.
