Marcie's story
In 2006, Marcie's son, Caleb was diagnosed with Langerhan's Disease, a disorder of the white blood calls. He underwent numerous surgeries and chemotherapy and his family's finances were stretched to the point that they had to sell their house. Thanks for the Strong Community Campaign, Caleb and his brother were able to stay in School Age Child Care at their grade school and the whole family could keep their YMCA membership. The kids were able to attend Friday Family Nights every week and Caleb was finally able to learn how to swim. "Without help from the Strong Community Campaign, we never could have afforded it. The boys could attend day camp and they enjoy being with other kids and learning things every day. We love the YMCA and the financial assistance helps us tremendously," says Marcie.

Everyone’s a Y kid, from the active older adults in aquatics class, to the youngest member of Mommy & Me gymnastics. And they all find what they need at the YMCA—a place to belong, friends who care, the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment.

The YMCA mission is at the heart of all of our programs: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirits, minds and bodies for all. We can only live up to our mission, and truly serve all who need us, with the help of committed and generous donors like you who give to the YMCA Strong Community Campaign. Your help ensures that no one, of any age, race, gender or ability, will ever be turned away from a YMCA program because they can’t afford it. Your help ensures that every kid can be a Y kid.
