Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instruct all dance classes.  Demonstrate and use equipment properly
  • Communicate with parents the progress of the child and all class schedules/changes.
  • Complete lesson plans on a weekly or session basis and report/review with Gymnastics Coordinator.
  • Maintain records of skills, attendance and student progress on skill sheets
  • Assure all classes are scheduled according to branch session schedule.
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Purpose of Position:

In accordance with the Christian principles of the YMCA and under the direction of the Health & Wellness Director, the incumbent will be responsible for providing quality instruction of YMCA group exercise classes. In addition, he/she will provide top quality customer service at all times, while exemplifying the “Y” values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith.

Qualification Requirements

Minimum of 18 years of age

-Minimum 6 months experience of group cycling instruction preferred and a national certification is a plus

-Positive & professional attitude, ability to work independently and as a team member, self-motivated.

-Knowledge of cycling class structure; demonstration of program technique

-Desire to gain fundamental knowledge of anatomy, physiology, nutrition and exercise programming

-Good communication and listening skills

-Available to work days, evenings &/or some weekends

    3. Body weight and height
    4. Body composition estimates using skin fold calipers. Etc.
    5. Circumference measurements of limbs, hips and waist
    6. Calculation of BMI
    7. Calculation of hip-to-waist ratio
    8. Measurements of flexibility
    9. Tests for muscular strength/muscular endurance
    10. Tests for cardio respiratory fitness

4.                    Help clients set realistic goals and provide motivation for adherence to the program.

5.                    Ability to develop and deliver exercise prescriptions to all clientele.

6.                    Demonstrate and instruct specific techniques to clients for the safe and effective performance of various exercise movements by applying the fundamental principles of exercise science.

7.                    Supervise or “spot” (physically assisting clients with an exercise that usually involves free weights or dumbbells to minimize risk of injury) clients when they are performing exercise movements.

Purpose of Position:

Under the general direction of the Aquatics Coordinator, the incumbent will take authority to ensure the safety and welfare of all participants in and around the pool area.  He/she will follow all guidelines as established in the YMCA Aquatic Program Model.  He/she will exemplify the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Qualification Requirements

  • Completion of Middle School
  • Current YMCA of Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred.
  • Must be able to mentally and physically pass all certification requirements.

  • Must be able to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distances.  Hear noises and distress signals.
