Purpose of Position:
Under the general direction of the Early Childhood Education Director, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the overall program, supervision of children and day-to-day operation of the Early Childhood Education Center. He/she relates to the Center Director, Center Staff Team, Parent’s Advisory Committee, state licensing regulators and community resource agencies.
Qualification Requirements
Education: Minimum of a 9 college semester hours with at least 2 years working with children or 36 months experience(must meet Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services criteria as a State Certified Director)
Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Posses at least 2 years experience in child care
- Must have experience working with children
- Must have strong communication, organization and detail skills
- Must have the ability to relate to children, parents, branch staff members and volunteers
- Must pass CPR/First Aid Certification
- Must complete YMCA required trainings
- Must follow directions, have strong leadership skills, be self-motivated and posses knowledge of group work principals and processes
- Certification in Principles of YMCA Child Care and Working with Birth-5 (within required time frame)
- Must complete a new hire packet prior to first working day
- Must complete Tortal training within 30 days of hire
Essential Functions of the Job
- Ensure the individual needs of the children are met for proper coordination of the program within the center.

- Assist in development, training and ongoing educational requirements through orientation, training and continued education opportunities.
- Understands the teacher’s role as that of facilitator vs. instructor.
- Communicate problems, issues or concerns with supervisor.
- Ensure open, positive communication and mentoring is provided to all staff on an ongoing basis.
- Posses the ability to relate to children, parents, peers, branch staff, volunteers and community.

- Responsible to keep center clean and sanitary to insure health and safety of all children.

- Is competent at demonstrating safe and effective exercise technique. Can modify exercises for those with low-back discomfort or musculoskeletal problems, as well as pregnant, de-conditioned or overweight individuals.
- Assess levels of fitness and directs students to appropriate classes, beginning through advance.
- Is conscientious of how the environment is affecting the class; ensures everyone is wearing appropriate footwear and permeable clothing. Is aware of ventilation and temperature. Insists on safe flooring for impact aerobics, Plays music at a level that motivates but doesn’t over power cues
- Maintains visual contact, monitors each individual’s level of fatigue and looks for signs of overexertion.
- Guides students skillfully through transitions with easily understood cues.
- Encourages students to progress when appropriate; applies principles of overload and rest.
- Set up equipment and stores it securely after class and maintains the cleanliness of the wellness area.
- Responsible for securing own subs if instructor cannot attend scheduled class times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
