Robyn's story
Robyn, a single mother of a 7 and 4 year old, wanted to make sure that her children were able to do things that other children were doing. Recently divorced and laid off from her job, Robyn turned to the Tri-County Family YMCA when she found out about financial assistance.
Her son loved the basketball program and her daughter–who was very shy—loves the dance program.
Robyn felt that she wanted to give back to the YMCA for all that they have done for her and her family. She offered to be a volunteer coach for her son’s soccer team. Robyn admits that she was very nervous about coaching since she had never done anything like this before, but by the end of the season she was a pro and all the children loved her.
Robyn continues to involve her kids in YMCA programs and ask how she can volunteer. She didn’t plan to be a single parent or to be laid off her job, but is thankful that the YMCA was there to help her and her family through the hard times. She has recently found a new job and is getting back on her feet but knows that they YMCA will always be there for her family regardless of their financial situation.
Everyone’s a Y kid, from the active older adults in aquatics class, to the youngest member of Mommy & Me gymnastics. And they all find what they need at the YMCA—a place to belong, friends who care, the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment.
The YMCA mission is at the heart of all of our programs: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirits, minds and bodies for all. We can only live up to our mission, and truly serve all who need us, with the help of committed and generous donors like you who give to the YMCA Partner Campaign. Your help ensures that no one, of any age, race, gender or ability, will ever be turned away from a YMCA program because they can’t afford it. Your help ensures that every kid can be a Y kid.
