West County Family YMCA Strong Community Story
David and Yoshie and their four children, Kazuya, Natsu, Hiroki and Sakura, have been very involved members of the West County Family YMCA since2006. “The YMCA is a very important part of our life,” says David. “It offers not only health and wellness benefits but also stability and friendship. All of our kids have great memories of learning how to swim and improve their skills and the friends they have made along the way.” The children have so improved their swimming, that now at ages 7-13, all four are on the YMCA’s swim team. So when David recently lost his job, one of his main goals was keeping the kids involved at the Y and on the swim team. Thanks to those who give to the Strong Community Campaign, this family was able to take advantage of the YMCA’s job-loss membership program and retain their membership at the Y. “As our family encounters financial difficulties, the YMCA and the scholarship program has been a welcome stress relief,” says David. “It has provided a sense of community for us as we struggle to stay afloat in these troubled waters.”
